Raven-Symoné is speaking out about the pressures of child stardom.
The actress, who shot to fame on Disney Channel's "That's So Raven" and "The Cheetah Girls," revealed on Monday's episode of her podcast "The Best Podcast Ever" that she underwent cosmetic surgery as a teenager.
"I had two breast reductions and lipo before I turned 18," Symoné told her wife and co-host Miranda Pearman-Maday. "I’ve never said it (before). I never shared it."
Symoné, 37, said that body-shaming prompted her to undergo the procedures, as well as an insistence from her father and former manager Christopher Pearman.
Because she was a minor, "there was paperwork involved," Symoné continued. "My dad suggested strongly that I should get my breasts reduced. And he was like, 'So you don’t feel bad, is there anything that you want?' I was like, 'Yeah if I get lipo, will people stop calling me fat?' And so, I got a twofer."
Symoné said she suffered a seizure as a result of the first procedure, but still went ahead with a second breast reduction.

"That first one I had, I actually had a seizure when I woke up from the surgery and I remember waking up and seeing everything," Symoné recalled. "Then I had this dry mouth and couldn't breathe, and they were like, 'Oh yeah, you had a seizure.' "
"The recovery was a little painful," she continued. "I still have scar tissue to this day. I gained weight after and had to go back for a little bit more out because they were still too big."
Despite her cosmetic surgeries, Symoné says the online bullying didn't stop.
"Even though I got the breast reduction, nobody knew at that age and I still got reamed through social media because I wasn't as skinny as everybody else and they still called me fat," Symoné said. "So it's like, you get that done and it's still not what everybody wanted to see."
Symoné and Pearman-Mayday met in 2015 and got married in 2020. They launched their joint podcast last month.
